About LRB

Owner and operator Liah Hughes, studied at Massey University, New Zealand and the Academy of Arts University San Francisco completing a Bachelor of Fashion Design with honours. Following graduation Liah Roebuck Bridal was born, offering a custom and made-to-measure design service specialising in wedding dresses and accessories.

Proud to be 100% New Zealand made, all dresses and products are designed, handcrafted and fitted in Liah’s local New Plymouth studio. This means no detail is forgotten or overseen, we work with you every step of the way.

We have two options available, off-the-rack and custom made giving you the option to buy straight from the shelf in studio, or a full custom design experience. Our gowns are modern, elegant and stylish; inspired by delicate lace, soft sheer fabrics and romantic detailing that won't weight you down. We are passionate about customising our products to incorporate each bride’s unique personality and style, working hand in hand to create something really special. So if our gowns aren’t quite you, that’s perfect! Lets use them as a base to create the perfect dress just for you.

To ensure a very private and exclusive experience, we are by appointment only. So contact today to discuss any thoughts and ideas you might have towards your dream dress and big day.

The Process

Off-the rack:
If you choose one of our 'off the rack' gowns and it meets all your wants and needs - its all yours! You can have this replicated to the exact specifications, or opt for our made to measure option. With made to measure the exact sample is made in your nearest size, and can also change the lace if you wish. Visit our collaborations page to see some of our off-the-rack dresses in photoshoots.

Custom gowns:
Our 'custom gown' option means we design, fit and create your dress. You choose every detail large or small. For inspiration and past gowns we have had the pleasure of creating, visit our real brides page

Initial Consultation:
At your Initial Consultation, you will meet with Liah to discuss wedding details and design ideas. You will then be able to choose from our existing collection of dresses, customise a dress from our existing collection, or discuss bespoke/custom design ideas and concepts. Liah will refine the design concept and prepare a final sketch that best suits your individual tastes and body frame.

Quotes and Deposit:
Following the Initial Consultation, we will provide you with a quote. These quotes are valid for acceptance by you for a period of one (1) month from the date of the quote. Once a quote has been accepted, we will fix the quoted price for a period of 12 months. If for any reason your dress has not been started within that 12 month period, we reserve the right to revise our original quote. A deposit of 50% of the total price is required upon acceptance of our quote. The deposit is non-refundable. Work on your dress will not start until the deposit has been paid.

Measurements & Alterations
Your wedding dress will be made specifically to your order and in accordance with your measurements taken at the Initial Consultation. We are able to hold off staring your gown if you are worried about gain/loss but this is something that needs to be discussed at the initial consultation. If your measurements change over the course of the dress making process (past the first fitting) requiring alterations to be made to the dress, we reserve the right to charge any additional costs associated with such alterations. We also reserve the right to charge additional costs which are incurred by us as a result of alterations to the design or structure of the garment requested by you following the Initial Consultation or arising from any body shape changes.

Fittings are strictly by appointment only. Fitting dates and times will be arranged at the Initial Consultation. Fittings will last one hour.

At the First Fitting, you will try on a calico mock-up, which we use to perfect your custom fit. The calico mock-up shows the basic silhouette and enables us to refine design details such as neckline and detailing. During this fitting you can choose from a range of fabrics, lace and trimmings.

At the Second Fitting you will be able to try on the full dress in your chosen fabrics. At this stage, the dress will be almost complete, and will enable us (and you) to get an idea of what the completed dress will look like, while still giving us the opportunity to make minor detail changes.

At the Third Fitting, aside from last minute adjustments and fitting of the closure/zip, the dress will be complete. This fitting allows us to determine whether any further minor adjustments are required.

At the Final Fitting you will try on the finished dress. Following this Final Fitting the dress will be steamed and placed in a garment bag for pickup or delivery.

NOTE: This is just a guide. The amount of fittings vary per person depending on how many changes are needed. During fittings you are requested to wear the shoes and underwear that are intended to be worn on the wedding day. We have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. We reserve the right to charge any additional costs that we incur as a result of your failure to cancel appointments within this timeframe or if you are more than 30 minutes late. If you cancel more than two fittings, we reserve the right to charge you for any costs which we incur as a result of associated added time pressures.

How early do I need to contact before my big day?
3-6months is required to produce a gown for you depending on the time of year. Due to high demand spaces may fill fast, so be aware to contact sooner rather than later.

Do I need to book a design consultation and how much will it cost?
To ensure an exclusive and private experience, consultation bookings are a must. Your initial consultation is free of charge, and additional meetings will incur a $30 fee. If you then decide to go with our service, this cost is then removed off the final cost. You will have a chance to browse through and try on sample gowns, look at our range of fabric, lace and trims. Contact today for your one-on-one meeting.

What should I bring with me?
When we meet for the first time, bring along any ideas whether small or large, anything helps! This could include design ideas, wedding factors, such as season (wedding date), location, theme and colours. We have a range of off-the-rack dresses in studio to try on, these help us find out what style suits your shape and can be used as a base to design off if going custom. When trying on, its a great idea to be wearing nude undergarments. And if you have your wedding shoes - that's great!

Who can I bring with me?
Friends and family are always welcome here at the studio. Because we are in a small space, we would like prior notice for any parties exceeding 3.

How many gowns do you have in studio?
Being a small bridal company, I have at any given time 8-15 off-the-rack gowns you can try on at our consultations. You can purchase this gown, have a made-to-measure gown made based on these designs, or go full custom made and create your dream gown.

What does 'made-to-measure' mean?
‘Made-to-measure’ means your measurements are taken, and your chosen off-the-rack design is created to fit you.

Worried about weight loss and Gain?
This is something we factor in at your first consultation. We can ensure there is a generous amount added onto initial measurements if your worried about any gain or loss during the lead up to your wedding. Once we go past the 'mock-up' stage of your custom gown service any dramatic weight loss/gain may incur a fee.

What is the price range for a Liah Roebuck wedding gown?
Our off-the-rack tea and Full-length gowns range anywhere from $1,500-$3,000 Incl GST. These gowns can be purchased off the rack, or made to order.
Our custom design gowns have ranged from $1,800-$4,500 Incl GST. These are priced during the design process and is dependant on lace and fabric selected. If you have a budget in mind, let us know early so we can design around this.

Can I Provide my own fabric?
During our first consultation, we can look at fabric you wish to use or purchase. The fabric will need to be taken into consideration when designing your gown to make sure it is appropriate and good quality, with plenty of excess in the event more is needed. Most brides leave the fabric up to me, I source through NZ companies and only the best quality.

I'm from out of town, can you still make my gown for me?
It is possible to make you a gown if you're from out of town provided you visit New Plymouth when required.

Do you make Bridesmaid Dresses?
Due to high demand with bridal gowns, I do not make bridesmaid dresses.

Afterwards, how do I wash my dress?
All dresses are dry clean only.

Can I return or exchange my dress?
We do not accept returns on bespoke garments. All dress sales are final
